Hints and Tips
Use your pillow in more ways than one!
Do you suffer from lower back pain? While on your back try using a pillow under your knees. This should relieve your back pain by helping to reduce the curve of the lower back.
Want to prevent your upper leg from pulling downward and creating a twist in the spine? Try placing a pillow between the knees while sleeping on your side.
Do you want to keep your spine in alignment and reduce any stress to your lower back? While sleeping on your stomach place a relatively flat pillow under your stomach. To avoid arching the spine it's best to place the head directly on the mattress.
What is the key to unlocking a good nights sleep?
We've all heard the phrase 'out like a light', but the truth is that even in the deepest stage of sleep you are actually conscious. Sure, for all intents and purposes you may apprear to be 'out' but in reality your mind is still highly aware of its surroundings.
Just think back to those mornings where you wake up feeling like you haven't slept a wink. More often than not it's because during the night your body has been struggling to get comfortable. To really sleep well it is important to create an environment in which you can pass into the deepest level of sleep easily and the key ot unlocking a good nights sleep is a mattress with the right level of personal comfort along with sheets that suit you and your needs.
Take a look at our different collections and see which one suits you.
Ever wondered what those terms really mean?
BEDSPREAD-a quilted cover for the bed that covers the entire bed including the pillows and reaches all the way to the floor. Used more for decorative purposes than for warmth. They are a popular method for 'dressing' a bed. Use of a bedspread removes the necessity for a valance on an ensemble. Bedspreads also come in two types, one being fully quilted all the way to the floor the other being quilted only on the top with the sides consisting of a ruffled skirt reaching to the floor.
COMFORTER-a form of a quilt used more for decorative purposes than for warmth. It is usually filled with polyeste filling.
COVERLET-most typically like a quilted bedspread, often with a cotton filling. Like a comforter it is designed more for decoration than for warmth.
DOONA-the Australian word for a quilt or duvet. See quilt for further details
DUVET-the French word for quilt or doona. Duvets were traditionally filled with feather and down. See quilt for further details
QUILT-also known as a duvet, doona or eiderdown. Quilts simplify making a bed, as it is a single cover instead of the combination of two sheets, blankets or more traditional quilts (patchwork or otherwise). Many people use a quilt forgo the use of a top sheet.

How to choose a mattress that can be custom made
What do you really know about mattresses? Only that a poor quality mattress can give you the worst nights sleep.
A large percentage of custom made mattresses use the spring system, so you want to make sure they are built using a very supportive bonnell spring system, which includes additional side support springs to ensure total use of the sleeping surface. This also becomes very important in a caravan, motorhome or boat where you may sit on the edge of the bed more than you would at home.
This supportive spring unit is then top dressed with responsive surface materials, either urethane foam or in the case of top of the range mattresses, latex rubber is sometimes used.
It is important to note that is tis more expensive to manufacture a soft surface mattress than a firm one, because the softer materials have to be of much higher quality in order to remember to return to their original form throughout the life of the mattress.
Have a think about the state of your mattress in your boat, caravan, motor home or at home. Find out more about what type of mattress you should be sleeping on by talking to the experts at MakinMattresses.
When was the last time you replaced your pillows?
Everyone has their favourite pillow; one that seems to cradle your head just that little bit better than the rest.
This does mean though that sometimes we hold onto them for too long. Over time, most pillows begin to lose their firmness and no longer support the head and neck adequately.
When a pillow has reached this stage, it should be replaced. So next time you go to bed take a look at your pillow and think about how long you've had it for and what it's doing to your neck. Do you have neck and shoulder pain?
Do you know how to fold a fitted sheet PROPERLY?
Lay your sheet right side down with the elastic facing up.
Take hold of the inside corner seam of the top right corner. Pull it out and into the bottom right corner seam so the top corner is inside the bottom corner. Do the same to the left corners.
At this point you should have the top half of the sheet tucked into the bottom half.
Now fold your sheet to form a neat and tidy square that can be put in your linen cupboard with ease.
Do you know how to make your linen last longer?
A gentle machine wash is the best option to reduce the wrinkles and maintain your sheets quality.
Whenever possible line dry your sheets and fold them in half on the line as this will ensure a slower drying rate which will reduce wrinkles again.
Sheets that are dried in the sun smell great but keep in mind dark colours will fade if exposed to the sun for a period of time.
